How we verify our Norfolk Broads information
Some of what's on this site is safety-critical. This page explains exactly how it's sourced, who checks it, and what we refuse to publish.
Every page is written and reviewed by a person
Nothing on this site is published automatically. Each page is written from first-hand experience of the water, checked against sources where a fact needs a source, and read once more before it goes live. Where a page carries a personal note from the helm, that's a real trip, not a device.
What we will not publish
This is the part that matters most, so it's a short list and we hold to it:
- No headroom or clearance figures we can't stand behind. Bridge clearance changes constantly with water level, so our bridge pages send you to the gauge board, the yard and the pilot rather than to a number that could be wrong on your day.
- No tide tables or arrival offsets presented as data. We explain how the tide behaves across the system on our tide times page and point to live sources. We don't reprint predictions as though they were ours.
- No mooring counts or fees stated as fact when they're unconfirmed. In our pubs directory unverified detail is labelled as such.
- No prices for third parties. Hire yards change theirs every season; we describe what a holiday costs in general terms on the cost guide instead.
Verification dates
Pages that contain anything time-sensitive carry a visible date showing when the detail was last checked. If that date looks old to you, treat the page accordingly and tell us — an out-of-date page is a bug.
Corrections
Corrections from boaters are the single best source we have, because you were there last week and we weren't. Send them through the contact page with the page and what you found. Safety detail is looked at first, and pages are re-dated when they change.
Where our apps fit in
The same principle runs through the products. Navigator Pro predicts tide and headroom for the day you're travelling rather than quoting a fixed figure, and Navigator Lite stays deliberately simple about what it knows. Neither replaces your yard's briefing or your own judgement on the water; see safe boating.
